Factory Design Labs and Mutual Mobile teamed up to build the most interactive and engaging automotive iPad app available. Audi is a brand known for its attention to detail and cutting-edge technology, and that is reflected in every aspect of this immersive iPad experience.  From the car customizer, the feature tutorials in 3-D, and the real-world Audi dealer integrations, the A8 Experience duly compliments Audi’s new flagship vehicle.

Pushing the Limits

Mobile hardware has come a long way, but crafting a high-polish, interactive experience requires specialized development expertise and efficient code. The A8 Experience makes full use of the iPad’s capabilities by pushing it to the extreme in the creative development approaches.

Dealership Integration and Real-World Interaction

The app goes beyond the usual at-home consumer experience by facilitating a real-world experience at the dealership, where Audi buyers can interact with the A8 through the iPad. Best Practices Design

There are a number of interface design paradigms iOS users have come to expect – home screen icons for primary navigation, long-tap an icon to change its position. As the leader of high quality audio downloads among music professionals, Beatport.com chose Mutual Mobile to create the “must have” iPhone music app.  The Beatport app incorporates audio streaming of nearly 600,000 songs, robust API integration, and careful adherence to App Store rules.  The end result is an incredibly polished (and extremely fast) mobile music buying experience that pairs perfectly with their online buying experience.

Focus on User Experience

Mutual Mobile created a dynamic, high-performance music player within the Beatport app, pushing the limits of multi-threading and caching schemas. Listeners are able to quickly find high-quality recordings and enjoy a seamless user experience where songs play instantly.

Xerox ACS

Mutual Mobile partnered with Xerox subsidiary ACS, Inc. to implement an application for the iPad designed to improve the quality and efficiency of fire inspections. With FHInspector, all of the information a fire inspector gathers–such as building details, evacuation routes, and locations of fire hydrants–is entered into the iPad and made available—in real time—to other users within the agency.

Gowalla

Gowalla is a massively popular social networking tool. The iPhone, iPad, and Android versions of Gowalla have significantly influenced the way that hundreds of thousands of people discover, capture, and share places. Mutual Mobile and Gowalla teamed up to engineer a version specially designed for Blackberry users, and have since continued to work together to improve the Gowalla experience.

BlackBerry End-to-End

Having worked with Gowalla on several smaller projects, Mutual Mobile was proud to take on the design and development of Gowalla’s first native BlackBerry app. Location services on any platform represent a significant development challenge and BlackBerry was no exception. However, through a well-executed design, development and QA effort, Mutual Mobile was able to meet and exceed expectations for location services on BlackBerry.

StumbleUpon

Prior to the iPad’s release, StumbleUpon selected Mutual Mobile as the development company tasked with creating a compelling mobile app for their 12 million web users. To ensure brand consistency, Mutual Mobile worked closely with StumbleUpon’s web and marketing teams. The StumbleUpon iPad app leverages specific “iPad only” features to make the most of this new touch platform.

Seamless User Accounts

One of the key requirements for the StumbleUpon iPad app was a seamless integration with the existing web services. Users can create accounts on the device or sign-in using existing credentials. Additionally, favorite sites and categories sync between the web and iPad interfaces automatically.

Prominent Social Sharing

StumbleUpon users are generally a vocal lot, and it was critical to craft an interface that accommodates sharing across users’ disparate social accounts. With the StumbleUpon iPad app, users can share with one click via Facebook, Twitter and email.

Controlling Hardware Over the Web

There are a variety of ways to achieve interaction between different devices and platforms, and decisions about communication protocols should not be taken lightly as they can have a significant impact on project scope and budget.

Efficient Development Methodology

Given the specific marketing requirements of the project, we opted for a lightweight web services integration. So for the Polycom iPhone controller, we elected to send device control data over the 3G network connection. This approach mitigated wifi and Bluetooth dependencies and allowed for a more efficient implementation overall.

With a deep understanding of consumer behavior in both the publishing and mobile spaces, the strategy for HBR took the form of a multi-app solution that increases the client’s visibility in the app store, while also appealing to proven use cases in the real world. The apps make it easy for on-the-go users to catch up on current trends in business, while incorporating prominent social sharing features. The apps makes HBR accessible to the everyday user, and allow more and more users to integrate a wealth of information in their daily, mobile lives.

For Harvard Business Review, we provided the means to adapt their existing mobile technology to an iOS native environment. When Hoover’s, Inc. came to Mutual Mobile, their highly capable development team had already completed a fully functional prototype. Our design team did a thorough review of the app and made recommendations to modify the user experience and visual design.

Focus on Interface and Usability

Mutual Mobile collaborated with the Hoover’s team to ensure brand consistency while maintaining adherence to Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines . As part of this process, we reverse-engineered specifications, gave user interface recommendations in the form of design wireframes, and supplied graphic art concepts that were used for the final version of the app.

Created on behalf of the California supermarket franchise, Raley’s Stores, this app allows users to search delicious meal ideas from Something Extra magazine, and create shopping lists instantly based on the recipes they’ve viewed.

Mutual Mobile and ASCAP worked together to create an iPhone app that would assist songwriters, composers, and publishers in managing a repertory of over 8.5 million copyrighted musical works.
